These 2 open clusters lie adjacent to each other between the constellations of Perseus and Cassiopia. They are easily visible with the naked eye given a dark sky. Lying around 7500 light years away both these clusters are much larger and brighter than the much nearer Pleiades. In fact if they were as close they would dominate our night sky. The stars within both clusters are very young , at around 13million years, much younger than the sun.
The double cluster is a wonderful sight when viewed through a telescope at low magnification with the differences in star colour being easily apparent.
