Roger Warner

I first came across Roger Warner in early 2006 shortly after joining the Stargazers Lounge Forum Rog was selling his Celestron Nexstar GPS and it seemed to be just the scope I was looking for. He gave me a huge amount of help and encourgement in my early days and we continue to push each other to move on up to the next level. He describes himself as "a plodder". In reality he finds a set up and a way of imaging that produces good results and he then works meticulously to get the best out of that method. Although he is now using a cooled ccd camera prior to this he was using a humble modded web cam in the shape of an Atik 2HS. He found that this worked perfectly with a fastar NS8GPS. The speed of this set up allowed him to get good data in 45 second subs which meant that he could operate with the scope in alt az. He could even do this when using an Ha filter so emission nebulae soom became his forte (a big help living in light polluted skies). He had effectively given himself a grab and go imaging set up perfectly suited to the British climate. To progress this further he developed some impressive processing techniques to extract the most data possible from the noisy 8bit images produced by the little Atik.

Below is a small selection of his 2HS images. Although he used a nexstar GPS similar results with this camera could be achieved using a small refractor on a relatively cheap equatorial mount. Decent images don't need a second mortgage.
