The Rosette Nebula

 

IC5070 Pelican Nebula

The Rosette is a large emission nebula in the constellelation of Monoceros to the east of Orion. At the centre of the area of nebulosity is the star cluster NGC2244. The cluster is just visible to the naked eye from a dark site. The Nebula itself is difficult to see through a scope but with the right conditions patches of nebulosity can be picked up with low power views.

Date: 7th February 2007.

Scope: William Optics ZS66 doublet with AstroPhysics 0.67 telecompressor. Guided using Skywatcher ED80.

IMount: Vixen Super Polaris.

Camera: SXV H9F and SXV guidehead.

Filters: Astronomic 13nm Ha OIII and SII.

7x10 minutes for each filter. SII - red, Ha-green and OIII blue.

Captured and aligned with Maxim. Transferred to PS using FITS Liberator. Combined and processed in CS2.
